Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS) are moving forward with a major review of its English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum, aiming to align classroom instruction with South Dakota’s academic standards. After months of evaluation by K–12 ELA committees, two instructional programs have been selected for pilot testing.
The district plans to present a final recommendation to the RCAS Board of Education in spring 2026, with full implementation expected in fall 2026.
To involve the community in the process, RCAS is hosting two open house events where families and stakeholders can preview the pilot materials:
- October 21, 2025 4:00–5:15 PM RCEC, Room 222 (625 9th St.)
- November 18, 2025 4:00–5:15 PM RCEC, Room 222 (625 9th St.)
Those unable to attend in person can review the materials online through December 5
District officials say community feedback is vital to shaping the future of ELA instruction and ensuring students receive high-quality, standards-aligned education.
