South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined a coalition of Attorneys General from 14 states in backing a rulemaking petition aimed at enhancing the integrity of federal elections. The group submitted a letter supporting the American First Legal Foundation’s petition to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), which calls for federal voter registration forms to include documentary proof of U.S. citizenship.
Jackley noted, “Our democracy depends on free and fair elections, and it’s essential that only eligible, registered U.S. citizens are allowed to vote. “Requiring proof of citizenship is a step toward safeguarding that process.”
The coalition includes Attorneys General from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.
