Jaxon Jewett, 19, has been sentenced in connection with a July 2 shooting at Star Village in Rapid City. Initially charged with attempted murder, Jewett accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
His attorney claimed the shooting was accidental and that Jewett didn’t realize he had struck the victim until seeing news reports.
Judge Robert Gusinsky handed down a 15-year prison sentence, suspending seven years, leaving Jewett to serve eight years behind bars.
