Pennington County will begin relocating departments to its new administration building at 900 Concourse Drive today. The Register of Deeds and Commission Office will be the first to move from the current location at 130 Kansas City Street. Human Resources, which is not open to the public, has already transitioned.
This phased move will eventually relocate eight departments, including Information Technology, Planning & Zoning, Treasurer, Auditor, and Equalization. The second wave of moves is scheduled for next Monday, with full relocation expected by Nov. 17. New service hours at the Concourse building will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The new 76,316-square-foot facility—formerly a call center—was purchased in 2022 for $7 million. Renovations and upgrades have brought the total project cost to approximately $17 million, or $226 per square foot. Officials say this is still more cost-effective than constructing a new building.
While fewer departments will occupy the new space, it offers over 500 parking spots, a major improvement over the limited parking at the downtown location. The Kansas City Street building will continue to house the State’s Attorney’s Office and other legal services. County officials assure there will be no disruption in services during the transition.
