Christmas tree permits for the Black Hills National Forest are now available.
Permits can be purchased at Ranger District Offices in Hell Canyon, Mystic, Northern Hills, and Bearlodge, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. MT (excluding federal holidays). Or, online at Recreation.gov. The site provides details on designated cutting areas, dates, and tree types. Buyers must log in or create an account to complete the purchase.
Officials note that cutting Christmas trees helps improve forest health by thinning small-diameter stands, allowing larger trees to thrive and creating forage for wildlife.
