The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS), in partnership with the Opioid Advisory Committee, has unveiled an updated Opioid Settlement Funding Framework designed to expand opportunities for communities and organizations in the fight against opioid misuse.
“This new framework encourages local collaboration and sets clear expectations for demonstrating outcomes through data,” according to DSS Cabinet Secretary Matt Althoff who added “We streamlined the application process in response to community feedback and the increase in available settlement funds.”
The framework introduces a broader range of award amounts to support both small and large projects, with a steady flow of funds aimed at strengthening prevention, treatment, recovery, and relapse reduction efforts across South Dakota.
Key updates include:
- Three funding opportunities tailored to project scope
- Simplified online application process
- Emphasis on addressing specific gaps with innovative solutions
- Technical assistance for applicants
Eligible applicants include state agencies, local governments, nonprofits, healthcare providers, schools, tribal entities, and faith-based organizations.
Applications are now open. More information is available at dss.sd.gov/behavioralhealth/grantinfo.aspx.
