Christopher Dahn, 46, was sentenced Friday to 15 years of probation for aggravated assault after firing at police outside Joe’s Place Bar & Grill in October 2023.
Prosecutors said Dahn waved a loaded pistol and shot at patrol cars before being quickly disarmed. He was originally indicted on multiple charges but pleaded guilty but mentally ill to one count of aggravated assault under a plea agreement.
Senior Deputy State’s Attorney Olivia Siglin urged a prison sentence, citing the trauma to officers and the danger posed. Defense attorney Matthew Rappold highlighted Dahn’s rehabilitation efforts, including counseling, AA, and founding an addiction recovery group.
Judge Heidi Linngren acknowledged both the severity of the crime and Dahn’s progress since the incident, ultimately imposing probation to balance public safety with rehabilitation.
