The Rapid City Council Legal and Finance Committee is recommending approval of a loan to help the day care Every Child Is Special continue operations and cover past improvement costs.
Several years ago, the city partnered with the day care’s owner to install a fire suppression system, including sprinklers, through the city’s life safety loan program. The program, adopted about seven years ago, was designed to help facilities meet safety standards and remain open to the public.
City Finance Director Daniel Ainslie explained that the loan was originally used to fund those upgrades. Adding “The project was done several years ago, and that was to install sprinklers there so they can continue to operate as a daycare center,”
Officials now want to modernize the loan terms to ease repayment for the owner, ensuring the day care remains accessible to families while also protecting taxpayer investment.
The City Council will consider the committee’s recommendation at tonight’s session.
