Voters in Deadwood head to the polls today for a special election to decide whether Commissioner Joseph Blake will be recalled.
A petition filed Sept. 30 with 170 valid signatures accused Blake of misconduct, abuse of office, and other offenses tied to a 2024 incident. His name will appear on the ballot alongside challengers David Ruth Jr. and Mark Speirs. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the City Commission set to canvass results Tuesday night.
Joseph currently faces a Class 1 misdemeanor charge for allegedly violating a no-contact order agreed to on October 1st. A status hearing in that case is scheduled for Dec. 8.
