Deadwood City Commissioner Blake Joseph will be replaced following a recall election held Tuesday.
Mark Speirs won the seat with 187 votes, defeating David Ruth Jr., who received 108 votes. Joseph finished far behind with only 22 votes.
Joseph had attempted to block the recall last month, challenging the validity of the petition. However, Fourth Circuit Judge Eric Strawn rejected all of his motions.
Also, a warrant was issued for Joseph’s arrest on November 24 for allegedly violating a no-contact order.
Speirs will now assume Joseph’s role as Commissioner of Planning & Zoning. The election results are expected to be certified at a Special City Commission meeting Thursday at 5 p.m.
