The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating the suspected drug overdose death of an inmate at Jameson Prison in Sioux Falls.
Larry Franklin, 37, was pronounced dead at the facility on Thursday, Nov. 27. An autopsy was conducted Monday, and investigators are awaiting toxicology results.
This marks the eighth suspected overdose death among South Dakota prison inmates since February. Trials are scheduled in January 2026 for Manarion Fuse and Melibu Ross, who face charges of distributing controlled substances linked to the deaths of two inmates. The remaining six cases are still under investigation.
Attorney General Marty Jackley noted that criminal charges are anticipated in some of the ongoing cases.
