Dakota Plains Legal Services will continue receiving federal support, securing nearly $2 million in grant funding despite criticism from another legal aid group. The nonprofit, which serves low-income residents in western South Dakota and Native American communities, must meet added conditions, including centralizing its intake system and hiring a permanent executive director.
The decision came during a virtual meeting of the state Commission on Equal Access to Our Courts, which also approved funding for Dakota Plains’ Justice Bus program.
