Governor Larry Rhoden, together with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), announced that South Dakota has secured more than $72 million in funding to expand high-speed internet access statewide. The funds will be distributed to subrecipients, aligning with Governor Rhoden’s proposed budget unveiled last week.
This latest funding follows the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) approval of South Dakota’s final proposal for the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. The approval represents a major milestone in a four-year planning and implementation effort to connect the state’s remaining unserved and underserved communities.
“Reliable broadband access is essential for South Dakotans,” according Commissioner Bill Even. “Our team worked diligently on this proposal, and I’m proud of their commitment to ensuring households across the state gain the connectivity they need.”
