A juvenile suspect connected to a fatal shooting in Rapid City has been located and taken into custody, according to law enforcement officials.
Rapid City Police responded to reports of a shooting Saturday evening around 9:33 p.m in the area of West Main Street and Jackson Boulevard.
Officers arrived to find a victim suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries. The individual was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where they later died as a result of the injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld until family members can be notified.
Detectives from the Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office have been working to piece together what led to the shooting. Based on witness accounts and video evidence, investigators believe the incident stemmed from an altercation between two groups or individuals in the 1800 block of West Main Street.
Authorities say the suspect will be processed through the juvenile justice system and add that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
