The Lead Volunteer Fire Department was called to a vehicle fire Saturday afternoon on Richmond Hill Road, north of the Coeur Wharf Mine.
At approximately 2:01 p.m. Saturday, units arrived on scene. A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy informed crews that ammunition stored inside the cab of the vehicle was discharging due to the intense heat.
Firefighters found a one-ton pickup truck pulling a trailer with a mini-excavator, with flames burning freely in the front of the vehicle. Crews quickly deployed a handline to extinguish the fire, secured the vehicle on the roadway, and neutralized all power sources. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office assisted throughout the response.
