The Pennington County Commission voted 4-1 to provide $320,000 to the Rapid City Public Library for 2026, ensuring continued services for county residents.
The funding represents a compromise after weeks of debate, following an earlier proposal to cut support to just $81,000 from the typical $475,000. Library Director Terri Davis said the decision preserves Sunday hours and avoids new user fees, though some collections and services will still be reduced.
Mayor Jason Salamun praised commissioners for listening to public feedback and reaching an agreement that maintains access for residents outside city limits.
