A proposed rule to ban all video recording of gaming tables, devices, and machines in Deadwood casinos has been put on hold. The South Dakota Gaming Commission agreed recordings could be misused but said the proposal was too broad, as it would even restrict people filming themselves with gambling in the background. Casinos already have authority to prohibit recordings individually.
The commission did adopt other rule changes, including expanding the ban on devices used to record or count cards to cover not just players but also spectators. Another change shifts responsibility for self-exclusion requests from casinos to commission staff. A new two-page application, including a photo, will allow individuals to request exclusion for periods ranging from six months to permanent. The commission will maintain a single statewide list, updated regularly and shared with all licensees.
Currently, about a dozen people are on the exclusion list, and they will be contacted to confirm their status.
