Rapid City residents can once again drop off natural Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland at the city’s remote disposal sites, which are now open through January 31. Items must be free of all decorations, tree stands, and plastic bags. The sites accept only Christmas trees and wind‑storm debris; all other yard waste must be taken to the Rapid City Landfill.
The City’s Solid Waste Division reported that after the 2024 holiday season, it collected nearly 19 tons of discarded trees and greenery from the remote sites at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium on Nickel Street and from the landfill.
City officials encourage residents to use the designated locations to ensure proper disposal and help keep debris out of residential waste streams during the post‑holiday cleanup period.
