The South Dakota Mines Student Association Senate will host one of the final public forums before the Jan. 20 special election on the proposed Destination District TIF, which includes the planned Libertyland USA entertainment development.
The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Surbeck Center’s Beck Ballroom.
The $125 million TIF moved to a public vote after petition signatures qualified the issue for the ballot. Student Association Senate President Jacob Vostad said the event is meant to give residents another chance to hear arguments for and against the project and to encourage voter participation.
Vostad said the Student Association chose to host the forum because the outcome will affect the broader community as well as student life. He emphasized the group’s focus on transparency and civic engagement.
