A Rapid City man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for attempting sexual contact with a 9‑year‑old girl.
Toka Looks Twice, 40, was sentenced Monday in Pennington County Circuit Court. He originally faced a first‑degree rape charge for the August 1, 2023 incident but later pleaded guilty to attempted sexual contact with a child under 16 as part of a plea agreement. The charge carries a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of seven and a half years in prison.
Prosecutors said Looks Twice entered a hotel room while intoxicated, lay down next to the sleeping child, and began touching her. Deputy State’s Attorney Adam Shiffermiller argued he exploited an “opportune” situation and should receive the maximum sentence.
Defense attorney Matthew Stephens said Looks Twice has long struggled with alcohol abuse and asked for a suspended sentence so he could seek treatment. Judge Joshua Hendrickson rejected that request, calling Looks Twice a “safety risk to the community” before imposing the maximum term.
