Four bills sponsored by South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley aimed at boosting election integrity and strengthening open meeting laws won unanimous approval Wednesday from the Senate State Affairs Committee.
Jackley thanked Rep. Rebecca Reimer, the media, and the state’s Open Meetings Advisory Task Force for their work, saying the legislation reinforces fair elections and improves government transparency.
The measures include:
- SB 17: Bans candidates and political committees from accepting contributions or loans from foreign nationals.
- SB 46: Updates requirements for public meeting agendas and adds penalties for violations.
- SB 47: Revises the rules governing executive sessions and closed meetings.
- SB 48: Requires meeting agendas to be posted online at least 72 hours before meetings.
All four bills now move to the full Senate. Their advancement means all 10 of Jackley’s legislative proposals have passed Senate committees and are awaiting final consideration or have already cleared the chamber.
