The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of the two people killed in a multi‑vehicle crash Friday afternoon west of Reliance. Reed Glenholden Harter and Chandler Cole Bakley, both front‑seat occupants of a 2008 Mercury Sable, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred on Interstate 90 near mile marker 244 when a 2025 Kenworth driven by Drew Allen Kellison slowed for a previous collision. The Mercury Sable struck the rear of the semi, triggering a chain‑reaction crash involving a 2025 Ford F‑150, a 2013 Ford F‑150, and a 2010 GMC Yukon.
Two additional passengers in the Sable — Wyatt Philip Kayser and Cameron Rick Quigley — suffered serious but non‑life‑threatening injuries.
In the 2025 Ford F‑150, driver Curtis W. Roberts and passengers Kathy and Megan Roberts sustained serious, non‑life‑threatening injuries. A fourth passenger, Addison Roberts, was uninjured.
The occupants of the 2013 Ford F‑150, Wade and Jennifer Ness, both received serious, non‑life‑threatening injuries. Catana Ehlers, driving the 2010 GMC Yukon, suffered minor injuries. The Kenworth driver, Kellison, was not injured.
Whiteout conditions and poor visibility contributed to the crash, according to investigators.
