The South Dakota Department of Education is recognizing four educators—three teachers and one school counselor—for earning National Board Certifications in 2025, a credential that reflects advanced professional skill and mastery in the education field.
National Board Certification is considered the highest professional certification for teachers in the United States. The process, which typically takes one to three years, involves a rigorous, peer‑reviewed assessment of a teacher’s instructional skills and subject‑matter expertise.
Among South Dakota’s newly certified teachers for 2025 are Stacy Smith, Kindergarten/Early Childhood, Rapid City Area School District.
In addition, Cameron Miller of the Spearfish School District earned the National Certified School Counselor (NCSC) credential, which recognizes counselors who have met national standards through advanced education, experience, and specialized examination.
