A northwest breeze is pushing smoke from the Silver Mountain Fire toward Highway 16, South Rockerville Road, and Neck Yoke Road this morning. Fire officials say stump holes inside the fire line are still burning, and smoke — along with occasional visible flames — will continue for several days. Crews checked the fire overnight at 1:30 and again at 4:30, and firefighters are briefing at 7 a.m. before heading back to the scene for the day.
The Silver Mountain Fire remains about 67 to 68 acres and is 50 percent contained, according to state and local fire officials.
Drivers should expect smoke along Highway 16 and watch for fire engines working in the area. No evacuations, damage to structures or closures have been reported.
