Fire crews continued working overnight to secure containment lines around the Grey Rocks Fire burning just south of Custer, after officials halted the fire’s forward progress late Sunday afternoon.
The wildfire was first reported shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday near the Custer County Airport, about three miles south of town. According to GPS mapping the fire was at 58 acres and as of 8:45pm Sunday was 50% contained.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters from the Custer Volunteer Fire Department and other area agencies continue to monitor hot spots today.
More updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
Meanwhile officials announced that the Silver Mountain Fire that has been burning near Rockerville is now at 100% containment as of 5pm Sunday.
