Dialysis services at the Hot Springs VA Medical Center will resume after a months‑long pause, following the VA’s decision to invest $1 million in upgraded water‑treatment equipment.
Senator Mike Rounds said Thursday that VA Secretary Denis McDonough confirmed the funding during a phone call, noting the aging system in the older facility needed major replacement. Rounds said the VA will move quickly to restore service.
Dialysis was halted in October, and Rounds said his office began receiving calls from concerned veterans in January. Many were forced to travel to Rapid City — a 120‑mile round trip — multiple times a week for treatment.
