The City of Summerset is considering a new regulation that would ban mining operations within city limits and nearby areas. The move comes as neighboring Piedmont faces strong pushback from landowners over a proposed limestone mine.
Summerset’s proposal uses a provision in the city’s zoning code that allows officials to establish rules applying to all zoning districts. The change would add mining to the list of activities prohibited citywide.
The first reading of the ordinance is scheduled for the March 19 city meeting.
