Testimony in the Surfwood murder trial wrapped up Monday closing the state’s case against three defendants accused in a gang‑related double homicide in a Rapid City apartment. Joseph Standing Bear, 29, and Petan Milk, 37, were found shot to death on Aug. 20, 2022.
Prosecutors allege the killings were retaliation for the death of Cory Old Horse, tied to conflict between the Gangster Disciples and The Boyz. Eight people have been charged in connection with the crime or its aftermath.
Three defendants — Dillon Wilson, 22; Erin Provancial, 45; and Montell Olivera, 29 — are on trial.
Witnesses testified that Olivera fired the fatal shots, while others waited in a vehicle. Additional evidence included Facebook messages among the accused discussing revenge, gun purchases, and arrests.
Defense attorneys called no witnesses and sought acquittals, which the judge denied. Closing arguments are set for today.
