Pierre lawmakers say they still hope to pass property tax relief this session, but options narrowed Thursday after a bipartisan tax plan failed in the House.
House Democrats blamed Republicans for killing HB 1308B, which they said would have delivered broad relief.
With HB 1308B off the table, lawmakers are now looking to piece together smaller proposals in the final days of session. Both parties acknowledged that significant tax cuts require either replacing lost revenue or asking local governments to absorb it.
House Democrats called the vote a missed opportunity and praised Rep. Tim Czymoski, R‑Harrisburg, for helping craft the bipartisan plan.
Republican leaders said negotiations continue, but the remaining hurdles — cost and vote count — remain unchanged.
