A bill to support road improvements tied to the arrival of the B‑21 bombers at Ellsworth Air Force Base cleared the South Dakota Senate on Thursday. SB 130, which provides $8 million in state assistance for growth‑related infrastructure needs near the base, passed unanimously 32–0 and now heads to the House.
Sen. Helene Duhamel, R‑Rapid City, said the investment shows the state is committed to the expansion at Ellsworth. Other lawmakers highlighted the base’s economic impact.
“It is one of the most important economic engines in the state,” said Sen. Taffy Howard, R‑Rapid City. Sen. John Carley, R‑Piedmont, added, “This bill is good for our state and our country.”
The Joint Committee on Appropriations previously endorsed the measure 18–0.
