South Dakota State Sen. Casey Crabtree announced Friday that he is suspending his campaign for the state’s at‑large U.S. House seat, saying he plans to refocus his attention on legislative priorities at home.
In a statement, the Republican senator said the events of the past week in the State Senate made it clear “my leadership is needed far more at home in South Dakota right now than in DC.” Crabtree, who launched his congressional bid last year, thanked supporters and said the campaign had been “an incredible journey.”
Crabtree also noted the personal considerations behind his decision, saying he looked forward to having more time with his family and attending his sons’ upcoming activities.
The senator endorsed Attorney General Marty Jackley in the November race, saying Jackley has his “full endorsement.” He also emphasized his continued support for former President Donald Trump and the GOP’s national agenda.
“To all of my family, friends and supporters, you believed in me and my America First, South Dakota Always message, and I’ll keep carrying that torch to make South Dakota a better place for all of us, but especially the next generation,” Crabtree said.
Crabtree will continue serving in the State Senate, where he has been a key figure on economic and energy policy issues. His withdrawal reshapes the Republican field heading into the 2026 election cycle.
