A new phase of construction on Interstate 90 near Wasta begins today, as crews start work on the eastbound bridge over Bull Creek at Exit 101, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
This phase includes demolishing and replacing the eastbound bridge, grading the approaches, and adding new asphalt surfacing. It follows the first phase of the project—the replacement of the westbound bridge—which was completed in November 2025.
During construction, traffic will be shifted into a two‑way configuration in the westbound lanes for roughly three miles. The speed limit will be reduced to 65 mph through the work zone at all times and lowered to 45 mph when workers are present.
Drivers should be prepared for possible slowing or stopped traffic and watch for crews and equipment working alongside the roadway.
Heavy Constructors Inc. of Rapid City is leading the $15.1 million project. Full completion is expected by Aug. 5, 2026.
