Oglala Lakota Telecommunications (OLT) is investing $54.5 million to expand high‑speed internet access across the Pine Ridge Reservation. Construction begins this spring, with services expected to launch in 2026.
The tribally owned company says the investment supports two major broadband projects: a $19.6 million fixed‑wireless system backed by fiber infrastructure, and a $34.9 million Fiber‑to‑the‑Home project funded through the USDA ReConnect Program. Together, the projects aim to bring reliable service to nearly every currently unserved location on the reservation.
The fixed‑wireless project is expected to reach 99.94% of unserved areas.
The Fiber‑to‑the‑Home expansion will deliver direct high‑speed connections to communities including Swett, Batesland, Denby, Wounded Knee, Manderson, Porcupine, Sharps Corner, and areas around Kyle—serving roughly 4,137 people, 846 households, 13 businesses, and 9 community anchor institutions.
Service is set to roll out in 2026.
