Two men are facing fraud charges after Rapid City police say they falsely claimed to be raising money for a local high school athletic program while soliciting donations outside the Walmart on North Lacrosse Street.
Officers were called to the store around 11:25 a.m. Tuesday and found the men working from tables set up near the entrances. Investigators later determined the pair had no connection to the organization they said they represented and could not explain what they were doing with the money collected.
Police arrested 19‑year‑old Davion Bell of Riverdale, Illinois, and 31‑year‑old Trvone Stokes of Chicago. Both are charged with fraud and are being held at the Pennington County Jail. Bell is also charged with providing false information after giving officers an incorrect date of birth.
RCPD is asking anyone who may have donated to the pair to come forward.
