House Appropriations delayed a vote Wednesday on a bill that would increase South Dakota’s Extraordinary Cost Fund for special education and add inflation indexing.
Republican Sen. Stephanie Sauder of Bryant told lawmakers districts can’t predict when a high-cost student will move in — and can’t fundraise their way out of it.
Grant Judson with the Bureau of Finance and Management said the levy impact would hit taxpayers across the state.
House Appropriations Chair Rep. Mike Derby, a Republilcan from Rapid City, deferred action on Senate Bill 106 until Thursday.
