South Dakota is likely to add a new lottery game this fall that features National Football League branding and prizes.
Called Powerball X’s & O’s, the $5 game uses a tic‑tac‑toe‑style card, with players selecting eight of the 32 NFL team logos, plus the NFL logo in the center square. Ticket sales are scheduled to begin September 8, with the first drawing on September 13, aligning with the opening week of the NFL regular season. Drawings would be held every Sunday year‑round.
South Dakota Lottery Executive Director Norm Lingle said a proposed rules package will go before the Lottery Commission for a public hearing at its June meeting. The game, developed by the Multi‑State Lottery Association in partnership with the NFL, would start with a $1 million rolling jackpot, while emphasizing NFL‑related prizes such as jerseys and possibly Super Bowl tickets.
Lingle said 18 or 19 lotteries nationwide are expected to offer the game. Details on marketing and whether tickets will be sold at NFL stadiums will be decided individually by each participating lottery.
