Governor Larry Rhoden has signed six bills designed to support students and strengthen education across South Dakota. Included among them is HB 1017, which provides school boards with greater flexibility to identify alternative educational settings for students when needed.
Governor Rhoden signed HB 1017 during a bill signing ceremony at Holgate Middle School in Aberdeen.
In addition to HB 1017, the Governor signed the following legislation:
- SB 106, which modifies the amount required to be set aside for extraordinary expenses related to special education programs;
- HB 1082, which establishes guidelines for reimbursing school districts that provide free or reduced‑price meals to students;
- HB 1244, which repeals the special donations fund and appropriates funding to the Department of Education to support the Jobs for America’s Graduates–South Dakota program;
- HB 1249, which updates provisions related to the School Finance Accountability Board and the process for approving its recommendations; and
- HB 1262, which appropriates funding for a non‑residential, school‑based therapeutic services facility in Brown County and declares an emergency.
