Two people charged in the death of 43‑year‑old Randall Lonehill pleaded not guilty Monday, March 30, in Pennington County Court.
Celeste Conquering Bear, 30, and Artie Black Bear, 41, entered their pleas during an arraignment before Judge Stacy Wickre at the Pennington County Courthouse. Both are charged with aiding and abetting second‑degree murder, according to court documents.
The charges are Class B felonies under South Dakota law and carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison, along with the possibility of a fine of up to $50,000.
An autopsy determined Lonehill died from injuries consistent with a physical assault and stabbing. Police were called just after 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 to the 100 block of East North Street, where officers found Lonehill deceased at an improvised outdoor encampment near the railroad tracks.
Bond for both defendants was set at $500,000 cash only. Their next court appearance is scheduled for April 27 at 10:45 a.m.
