Authorities have identified the man killed in a four-vehicle crash near Deadwood Friday as Robert Allen Erickson, who was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban.
Preliminary crash information indicates Erickson was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 14A when his vehicle crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound 2010 Ford Flex driven by Joanna Silvia Barlow. The impact caused the Ford Flex to spin and come to rest on the centerline.
The Suburban then struck an oncoming Ford F-150 head-on. The pickup, driven by Justin Weaver, left the roadway and went into a ditch. The Suburban continued and collided with a GMC Sierra driven by Cody Lynn Oliver before coming to rest in the westbound passing lane.
Erickson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Justin Weaver and a passenger in the Ford F-150, Lindsey Weaver, were transported to Monument Health in Rapid City with injuries. Barlow and a two‑year‑old passenger in the Ford Flex, as well as Oliver, escaped serious injury.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released is preliminary.
