Gov. Larry Rhoden has provided guidance to South Dakota counties on implementing SB 96, a key component of what he touts as the largest property tax cut in state history.
SB 96, combined with SB 245, reduces property taxes statewide and has already drawn interest from several counties. Rhoden said his administration is working closely with local governments to ensure smooth implementation.
The South Dakota Department of Revenue has published implementation resources for counties, including a guide and sample ordinance. The department said it will assist counties whether the measure is adopted by a county commission, referred to voters, or initiated by residents.
Rhoden also sent letters to each county outlining implementation details and updated maps showing estimated taxpayer savings are available through the governor’s office.
