Rapid City’s Legal and Finance Committee approved a request for proposals for architectural and engineering services for a proposed $50 million indoor sports complex planned for Rapid City’s north side. The motion passed with one member voting in opposition.
The proposed facility would feature eight basketball courts convertible for volleyball and pickleball, along with an indoor turf soccer field. The project would be built on 22.78 acres donated by Pete Lien and Sons and is intended to expand youth sports opportunities and attract regional visitors.
Finance Director Daniel Ainslie said the complex is designed to serve local residents while also drawing weekend tourism to Rapid City.
The committee postponed a separate vote for two weeks on issuing a request for proposals for a construction manager at risk.
