South Dakota Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson announced that James Bialota Jr. has qualified to appear on the Republican primary ballot for the U.S. House of Representatives in the June 2, 2026, election.
According to the secretary of state’s office, a random sampling of Bialota’s submitted signatures showed that 84.23 percent were valid. Based on that validation rate, election officials projected that Bialota submitted approximately 2,576 valid signatures, exceeding the minimum threshold of 2,171 required to qualify by just over 400.
Bialota joins current Attorney General Marty Jackley in seeking the Republican nomination for South Dakota’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The winner of the June primary will advance to the general election later this year.
