The National Park Service has opened the public lottery for tickets to the July 3 fireworks and patriotic celebration at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
The event marks the return of fireworks for the first time since 2020 and commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary. The lottery application period closes April 12 at 9:59 p.m. MDT, with results emailed April 14.
Tickets are required for all attendees older than 2. The memorial will close to the general public the evening of July 2 and remain closed July 3 except to ticket holders. Applicants may request up to four tickets and must choose either on-site parking or a shuttle from Rapid City. Only one application per household is allowed, with a nonrefundable $1 fee.
The celebration is open to U.S. residents only, and valid photo ID will be required at entry. Activities include educational programs, performances by the U.S. Air Force Academy Band and presidential reenactors. The park opens to ticket holders at 1 p.m., with the main program and fireworks running from 4 to 10 p.m.
Applications are available at Recreation.gov, with additional details posted on the Mount Rushmore website.
