Rapid City is reviving a downtown Independence Day parade for the first time in 35 years as part of the Real America Birthday Bash, set for July 1–4. The parade will step off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, followed by a patriotic drone show by Sky Elements at 9:30 p.m. near Memorial Park.
The city last hosted a Fourth of July–era parade in 1991 for Mount Rushmore’s 50th anniversary. Organized by Festival of Lights director Connie Olson, the parade is open to local groups and businesses, with volunteers needed.
The celebration also features a downtown festival, fireworks viewing at Main Street Square, concerts by Chancey Williams and the Air Force Academy Band, and family-friendly activities including a Kids’ Zone, live music, reenactments and patriotic programs.
