A Rapid City committee approved key items for the proposed sports complex despite public concerns over project funding and the facility management contract.
Residents questioned the use of public funds and the selection process for the complex operator. Sports Commission Executive Director Damico Rodriguez said the operator was chosen through a competitive request-for-proposals process.
Mayor Jason Salamun said the project has undergone years of planning and could boost quality of life, tourism, and youth sports opportunities. Additional approvals are still required, with more project announcements expected in the coming weeks.
