Despite extreme heat over portions of the state, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report shows overall drought conditions have improved slightly over the last week. The data, released July 16 and based on conditions as of July 14, shows a decrease in extreme drought and abnormally dry contitions while areas of moderate and severe drought saw slight increases.
The U.S. Drought Monitor notes that drought conditions can impact crop and pasture growth, water supplies, livestock operations and wildfire risk, depending on severity. Moderate and severe drought areas can face reduced crop yields, declining water supplies and increased irrigation needs.
