Rapid City police are continuing to investigate a shooting involving teenagers that left two people injured Saturday night.
Officers were called to the 900 block of East Omaha Street around 8:10 p.m. on July 18th after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between two groups of juveniles and does not appear to have been a random act. Authorities now believe there were two shooters, one from each group involved in the dispute.
According to police, one of the shooters was struck by gunfire during the exchange and hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The second shooter was located a short time later and taken into custody.
The juveniles involved range in age from 13 to 17 years old. One juvenile shooter has already been referred through the juvenile justice system, and police say additional consequences are expected for others involved.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
