A Florida man has been arrested following a shooting this morning in Meade County that left a woman with serious injuries, according to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 9:32 a.m. on July 20, 2026, to the 21000 block of Pleasant Valley Road after receiving a report of a person who had been shot.
The Sturgis Police Department assisted with the response as the two Meade County deputies on duty were actively investigating an unrelated assault in the Black Hawk area at the time of the call.
When law enforcement officers arrived, they located an adult female victim inside a travel trailer. Authorities said the woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Monument Hospital for treatment.
Investigators identified the suspect as Christopher Nappa, 50, of Dunedin, Florida. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators believe Nappa and the victim did not know each other and were occupying separate trailers when the shooting occurred.
Following the investigation, Nappa was arrested and booked into the Meade County Jail on the following charges:
- Simple Assault (SDCL 22-18-1), a misdemeanor
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (SDCL 22-14-7), a misdemeanor
