Western South Dakota communities will receive more than $750,000 in federal disaster recovery funding through FEMA’s Public Assistance program to help repair damage caused by recent severe weather.
Rapid City was awarded more than $347,000 for debris removal following straight-line wind damage. Additional funding was approved for repairs to roads, culverts, and embankments in Gregory County, as well as storm-damaged structures and dams managed by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks.
The FEMA funding is intended to help communities recover from weather-related damage while strengthening public infrastructure against future disasters. The grants are part of FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which helps state and local governments restore damaged facilities and essential services after major disaster events.
