July proved to be a bustling month for development in Rapid City, with the city government reporting the issuance of 286 building permits totaling an impressive $65.1 million in construction value.
Among the permits issued, 23 exceeded $1 million, highlighting significant investment across the region. Leading the pack was the permit for the new Caterpillar facility, valued at $6 million, making it the largest single project of the month.
The city also saw a notable uptick in residential development, with 29 single-family home permits issued in July alone. According to Building Permit Technician Jasmine Berg, the city has already issued 120 single-family home permits this year—surpassing last year’s total and on pace to exceed the previous year as well.
With diverse development happening across Rapid City—from major commercial projects to new homes in various neighborhoods—the city continues to experience steady expansion and investment.
